Having to install a new air conditioner unexpectedly is something no one ever wants to deal with. Nobody wants to wake up to a broken air conditioner and wonder what to do or be slapped with a hefty bill just to get their cooling system going again. Here at Hitech PTAC Manhattan , we know you might have questions and that you want to get the best deal possible to get your A/C up and running again. While a repair can sometimes do the trick, occasionally air conditioners get too old and installing a new air conditioner is the best choice. If this is the case, we at Hitech want to help you get the best deal you can and help you invest in a new A/C system that will last you for a long time, so you won’t have to worry about a broken air conditioner for many years to come.
Here is some information about things to think about when considering replacing your air conditioner, as well as some information about our air conditioner installation process at Hitech PTAC Manhattan .
When considering if it is time to replace your old air conditioner, here are a few things you will want to consider. Not all air conditioners need to be replaced. Sometimes a repair is all that is needed. Other times, repairing old, outdated units over and over will lead you to spend more money just to have to replace the unit later on anyway. Here are some things to think about to know if you should replace your existing air conditioner.
If your unit is getting old, it may be worn out and time for a replacement. As with any machine, air conditioners and their parts have a life cycle and do need to be replaced from time to time. And eventually they just wear out. If your unit is over 15 years old it may be time to get a replacement instead of a repair. Or if your air conditioner has problems and the repairs would be more costly than to replace it, that is also grounds to consider a new A/C installation.
Several repairs on an A/C unit, such as the compressor going out or other major repairs can easily become more costly than it would be to just replace the unit entirely. And if you are adding new parts to an already well worn system, the other parts will in turn wear out and break and cause more strain on the new parts, causing them to wear faster as well. While it may be more expensive up front to just replace the unit, it may be a better long term investment in this case.
If your system is more than 15 years old, it’s guaranteed to be substantially less efficient than current models. That by itself may not seem like a big deal, particularly when you’re contemplating the cost of an air conditioning installation. However, there are benefits with a new system. Lower energy bills, consistent cooling and no AC repairs for years to come, just to mention a few. So if you are suffering repair after repair or some parts of your home are being cooled more than others, not to mention the high energy bills, maybe it is time to consider replacing your system.
Of course, the truth is that you are going to replace your old air conditioner sooner or later. So why keep spending more money on higher energy bills and costly repairs?
This may not apply to many air conditioning units but is something to think about if you have an especially old system. In 9 years there will no longer be R-22 refrigerant manufactured. Currently all new air conditioners will be using only R410A refrigerant. This means you may also have to replace your in-door coil with one compatible with the new R410A refrigerant. If this is the case, it may be worth simply paying for a new system that is up to date with the latest technology in the industry and that will last you for many more years to come.
Sometimes as an air conditioner gets older, it won’t cool your home the same as it used to. If your home isn’t getting cool and you have tried cleaning or replacing your filter and have watered down the condenser unit, it may just be that the system is getting old and you need a replacement. If this is where you are at, rather than suffer through less cooling power or try and fix it yourself, consider saving your time and money by looking at an air conditioning replacement through an HVAC expert.
When the time comes for you to consider replacing that old worn out air conditioner, you will want someone you can trust to give you the best information so you can make an informed decision. Installing an air conditioner is a more complicated process than many people think. And if your HVAC contractor doesn’t understand all of the steps to a good installation, you won’t get as high quality of a system and will pay for it later in higher utility costs. Here is a basic summary of a few of the steps involved in installing an air conditioner with Hitech PTAC Manhattan .
Modern air conditioners may be much larger than units that are 20 to 30 years old and this may require some accommodation of the space in your home to fit the new unit. You will also want to make sure you select the right size of system for the size of your home or building to have maximum efficiency. We offer a variety of models and sizes and can help you choose the right one for you.
Next an expert will want to come and inspect your home and the space where the new unit will be. If modifications need to be made to be able to accommodate the new unit, such as modifying ductwork etc, the expert will recommend this and work with you to make a plan of action. We want to make sure that the system is set up properly the first time instead of an installation that is just “good enough.”
We will always call you to let you know we are on our way so that you can know when to expect us. We will also make sure that we introduce ourselves by our company name so that you can know who we are and feel comfortable with us in your home. We treat your home with respect and bring mats and protective equipment and make sure to leave your home cleaner than we found it. We want you to be at ease knowing that we respect you and your home instead of any feelings of discomfort during the installation process.
Our experts will talk with you and explain the process and scope of the job so that we make sure we are on the same page. We believe that communication is key. We will then begin the process of removing the old unit and installing the new one. This process generally takes anywhere between 4 to 8 hours to complete and is much more complicated than simply unplug one and plug the other in. Here is an example of a few of the steps involved.
Once the installation is complete we will run a test to make sure things are working properly and will make sure you know how to get a hold of us in the event that you have any problems in the future.
All of our installations come with our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty program, and if you have any problems with your new A/C, we strive to be as responsive as we can and take care of you. We value our customers and take pride in what we do and in making sure you are taken care of for years to come.
We hope this information is helpful in terms of the basics of air conditioning installation and how our process works at Hitech PTAC Manhattan . The time to repair the roof is before the giant rainstorm. The same is true for your air conditioner. The time to catch problems and get them fixed is way before your A/C dies and you are left with a hot and stuffy home or office. This will not only save you a hassle, but it will also save you money and collateral damage to other parts of your air conditioner.
Catching problems with your air conditioning system doesn’t just save you the aggravation of having to go without it until the repair services are completed. It will also likely save you money. When one part of an air conditioner isn’t working right, the other parts will have to work that much harder to make up for it. This leads to increased wear and tear throughout the A/C system and can require you to replace parts much sooner than you would otherwise. You also can avoid the expense of a much more costly repair for replacing multiple parts or the entire system and instead only replace a small part or issue that will keep the whole system running.
When you catch these types of problems quickly, you can avoid that collateral damage, making the cooling repair much less extensive and expensive. If you’re not sure, it is always better to be safe than sorry. So give the professionals in air conditioning repair at Hitech PTAC Manhattan Conditioning a call today. We offer same day air conditioning repair in Brooklyn , New York , Draper, Murray and many other areas. Our greater New York or Manhattan / Brooklyn area air conditioning experts will also gladly answer whatever questions you might have and send someone right over to take a look at your cooling system.
Want to know if your A/C needs a tuneup? Not sure how to recognize a problem? Here are a few warning signs you might notice to know if you need to call Hitech PTAC Manhattan .
Here are a few common signs that your air conditioner isn’t running the way it is supposed to. If you notice any of these things or any other problems with your A/C, give us a call today!
This one should be fairly obvious but if your air conditioner is blowing warm or hot air, that is definitely a sign that you need to get it checked out. Or even if the air just isn’t as cold as it used to be, that can still indicate a problem. Most often this indicates a compressor problem or refrigerant problem, and if too serious, could indicate you need to replace the unit.
If you notice moisture coming out of the unit or in the area around the unit this can also indicate a problem. Sometimes it is a simple problem like a clog or blockage in the drain tube that takes condensation away from the unit. Other times it may indicate a refrigerant leak. In either case, addressing this problem quickly is important to avoid an environment where mold can grow or potential health risks to you or your family with leaking refrigerant.
If your air conditioner is making strange noises, this is another obvious indicator of a problem. An air conditioner is a machine with many moving parts and sometimes these parts break down, wear out or need lubrication or replacement. If you hear squealing, squeaking or grinding sounds, there is an internal problem with your system that needs to be addressed to avoid a costly breakdown or complete unit replacement.
A weird smell from your unit often indicates wiring has burned out or there is mold within the unit and neither of these is good for your system, your health or your house or building. If you notice any smells coming from your air conditioner unit, get in touch with an expert to help you take a look at it as soon as you are able.
These are just a few of the common signs to notice that can help you catch problems early. The list of air conditioner problems is vast and you may encounter other things as well such as high humidity, poor air flow, thermostat problems and much more. The easiest thing to do when you encounter a problem with your air conditioner is to give the experts a call and ask. We won’t repair things that don’t need to be fixed, and we can help you know if something is normal or if there really is a problem that should be addressed.

A heat pump is a device that moves heat from one area to another to help maintain a comfortable temperature in your home. In some ways they are very similar to an air conditioner in their cooling capabilities. However, they are unique from an air conditioning unit in terms of their heating capabilities.
Both heat pumps and air conditioners function by removing heat from one location and depositing it in another location. Many people don’t realize this and think that air conditioners are producing cold air. However, in fact they are more just removing heat from the air inside your home and funneling it outside your home, creating cooler air inside your home and therefore cooling the home. A heat pump during the summer months can actually do the exact same thing. It will remove heat from the air inside your home, funneling it outside and thus cooling your home just like an air conditioner would. In essence a heat pump, like an air conditioner, is just a mechanism used to transfer heat.
However, during the cold months of the year, the heat pump can also act as a heating system, making it unique from an air conditioner in that it can really function as both a heat system and an air conditioner. In the cold months, the heat pump has a reverse valve that allows it to absorb heat from the outdoor air (even in very cold temperatures), and transfer that heat inside your home, effectively heating your home. In this way, a heat pump acts as both the heating and cooling system for your home, creating a more energy efficient way to cool and heat.
As mentioned above, the heat pump works by transferring heat from one location to another. In the case of cooling, it takes heat out of the air in your home and transfers it out, effectively blowing out colder air into your home and cooling the home. The reverse works for heating capabilities too, and the heat pump takes the small amount of heat in the outdoor air and transfers it into the home to heat the home. This heat transfer works even in cold temperatures when the outside heat seems to be limited (cool, huh?). However, it uses a lot more energy to do so when temperatures drop below freezing (we discuss this in the limitations section below).
A heat pump uses electricity to run and a refrigerant to transfer the heat back and forth. Because refrigerants have a very low boiling point, manipulating the temperature/pressure ratio of the refrigerant allows the heat pump to transfer heat back and forth (in a very simple, layman’s way of explaining the process). Also because the heat pump runs off of electricity, this type of heating does not burn fossil fuels, making it more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Heat pumps generally come in two types, ground source and air source. Air source heat pumps transfer heat from the air into the home, whereas ground source heat pumps transfer heat from the ground. Air source pumps tend to be slightly more common because they are less expensive. However, ground source pumps, while more expensive, tend to be more energy efficient and often more cost effective due to the ground’s temperature being a little more constant throughout the year.
Heat pumps have some advantages that make them a great choice for many. A heat pump is very energy efficient because it doesn’t burn any fossil fuels to transfer heat. It is powered from electricity and uses less energy than it produces, allowing you to cool or heat your home with more efficiency, which often lowers costs. A heat pump also acts as both your heating and cooling system for many climates, lowering your upfront costs of having to install both air conditioning and a furnace, as well as potentially lowering maintenance costs as well. Rather than two completely separate systems, you instead have one system that can do it all, saving you time, hassle and money. While heating can be tricky for a heat pump in very cold climates (we discuss solutions to this problem in the supplemental heating section below), a heat pump can be a great choice to help you lower costs, save money, help the environment, and still have a very comfortable home all year long.
Heat pumps have distinct advantages that make them a great choice. However, they also have some limitations that you should be aware of. Heat pumps can be limited in their effectiveness in extremely cold environments, typically when the temperature frequently drops below freezing. This is because the heat pump is transferring heat from outside to inside, and although, even when it is cold outside, the pump can still extract heat from the outside, it just takes a lot more energy to do so. The unit still works just fine, but when temperatures drop below freezing, the unit has to work much harder to funnel in the limited heat available, often using more energy to do so than the heat that it is producing. For this reason, if you live in a particularly cold climate, such as New York during some winters, you may need to consider pairing your heat pump with a furnace solution in a supplemental heating arrangement. These types of arrangements are still very smart and energy efficient, and with today’s innovative technologies for pairing these systems, this arrangement can become a powerhouse for heating and cooling your home (see below).
Because we can reach very extreme temperatures here in the New York and Manhattan areas, we at Hitech would generally recommend a backup system for heat if you are using a heat pump for your home. These types of arrangements of using a heat pump with a back up heat system are often called dual fuel systems, hybrid systems or a supplemental heating system.
A supplemental heating system essentially means using your heat pump as your primary source of heating and cooling during the year, but pairing it with a furnace solution that kicks in automatically if the temperature becomes too cold. In this way, you are using a more energy efficient heating system throughout most of the year, but on those particularly cold days you are never left without heat. Some people simply include a small electric auxiliary heater with their heat pump indoors to generate heat in the winter. However this solution is often not as efficient and we typically recommend pairing with a furnace instead.
When you pair a heat pump with a furnace as a backup, these heat systems have been found to be very energy and cost efficient, especially for many people in New York , making them a great choice for your needs. You can get the benefits of the energy efficient heat pump during the spring, summer and fall, but then have the back up system for when the temperature is too cold on some winter days for the capacity of your heat pump. In this way, you get both energy efficient cooling and comfort, with often lower costs and even a little environmental friendliness too!

Hitech PTAC Manhattan Conditioning will provide you with prompt and reliable furnace installation – Estimates on New Equipment are Always Free
With the years of experience that Hitech PTAC Manhattan Conditioning has in furnace installation, you can feel confident that your new heating installation will be done correctly. You will always be given the proper information about the brands and models so you can make an informed decision for your family and home. We offer top quality furnaces and heating systems from a number of brand such as Rheem, Lennox, Bryant, Trane, and Tempstar, just to mention a few. And if you aren’t sure what brand or style will work best for your home, we have professionals who can help you determine which features and models are most important in your situation. We will always help you to stay within your budget while providing the best quality furnace possible. We know what it takes to keep you comfortable all seasons from summer to winter, from Greater New York to Manhattan , Brooklyn or New Jersey .
Often the hardest step in the furnace installation process is choosing the right furnace for you. You want to select a furnace that will work well for the space it is located in and that will provide efficient heating to all areas of your home or business. To select a type of furnace and brand, we recommend consulting with one of our professionals who can come to your home and look at the space where your furnace is located. They will then be able to give you an estimate on not only the furnace installation cost, but also some options for best brands and styles to choose from.
Once you have decided on what furnace installation or heating system you want for your home, you must now figure out what size fits your needs the best. A furnace or heating system that is too small will run constantly and may never really get the temperature in your home to a comfortable level for any length of time. This constant cycling on and off is not good for your furnace or heater either. It will cause extra wear and tear and reduce the life of your furnace faster than the normal life. A furnace or heating system that is too big could easily make it uncomfortably hot by producing powerful blasts of hot air and that will not help to keep your indoor environment comfortable. You would also be spending more money than necessary for a larger than required furnace or heating system. At Hitech PTAC Manhattan Conditioning we will make sure you have the right size furnace for your home or office.
Once you have selected the right furnace and size for you, the next step is to schedule a time for the installation. Keep in mind that the average furnace installation can take anywhere from 4 to 10 hours to complete. This is because the old furnace must first be removed, which can be a very laborious process due to the many parts and connections that have to be dealt with. Then the area must be prepped, the new furnace reconnected, and a few tests to make sure that it is working correctly. On average the furnace installation time is about 8 hours, and you will want to make sure to schedule it at a time that is most convenient for you and in advance of when you experience a problem if possible. The time to replace the furnace is well before it is on its last leg and breaks in the middle of winter!
As described above, the furnace installation process follows generally three simple steps.
First, professional technicians will need to remove the old furnace including disconnecting the gas line if your furnace is a gas furnace, and making sure that nothing is damaged on the gas line when removing the old furnace. Because of the many connections to the furnace that help it run properly, many underestimate how long removing the old furnace takes. It is much more than a simply unplug and discard, and this step is often the most laborious part of the process.
Once our technicians have removed and disposed of the old furnace, they will then need to prep the area and make sure it is clean of dust and debri so that you have a clean install with your new furnace. We make sure to leave our installations cleaner than we found them! We will then put in the new furnace and reinstall the connections to the new unit including the gas line, electrical supply, vent pipes, the ducting system, the condensation drain and others. Our professional technicians will make sure that all parts and pieces are connected properly to ensure that your furnace is running safely and well.
Lastly, once the installation is complete, we will test the furnace to make sure that everything is working properly. We want to make sure we leave your home with you knowing that you have a brand new furnace working exactly how it should be. We stand behind our work. Learn more about our Lifetime Warranty on our furnace installations below!
We are so confident that our installers will do exceptional work that we offer a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty on all new HVAC installations. If anything should go wrong in the way your product was installed we will fix it at no cost to you for as long as you own the equipment. That is simply our way of doing business, we stand behind our products, our repairs and our new heating and air conditioning installations anywhere from Greater New York , to Manhattan , and to southern New York County. Call us today and let us know what we can do for you.
Many people feel that furnace installation is something they would rather tackle on their own and try and save a few bucks. If you have the knowledge and skills to be able to handle this task effectively, then this may be a good solution for you. However, if you have limited skills in HVAC and heating systems we highly encourage you to visit with a professional before deciding on a Hitech installation. Here are three reasons why working with a professional can help you have a better furnace install.
Furnace installation professionals have years of experience, certification and training in installing furnaces. This experience allows them to be the best in what they do. Choosing to work through an expert is the best way to ensure that your furnace is installed properly and in a way that will maximize energy efficiency and reduce later utility costs.
Using a professional can also save you time and minimize the chance of error during your install. Installing a furnace is already a long process, and making mistakes due to inexperience or not following directions correctly will only add time to your installation and can cause stress and frustration, leading to more errors and a vicious cycle. Furnace installation professionals have the experience to know the common errors in furnace installation and how to avoid them, thus reducing the time needed to install the furnace and getting you back to a comfortable heating level as soon as possible.
Professional furnace installation companies like Hitech PTAC Manhattan can also give you better recommendations on the type of furnace that will be best for your home and space as well as brand recommendations, typical pricing etc. Professional companies also have partnerships that often allow us to get you better pricing than the average seller by choosing to purchase through our company. We can work with your needs and budget and give you a customized quote for your home.
Safety should not be neglected when it comes to furnace installation. If you have the experience and understand the aspects of how the furnace works and the potential hazards, you may be able to install the furnace on your own without any problem. However, nothing is worse than injuring yourself in the furnace installation process simply because you did not fully understand the process or implement it correctly. As with anything, ensuring that you understand the risks involved and how to safely install and operate the furnace, is the safest way to make sure you have a good experience with your install. And if you don’t have that experience, it may be worth the investment to consider just working with a professional.
Lastly, furnace installations through a professional often come with warranties associated with both their product and their installation. Typical warranties on a furnace include a 5 year warranty on parts and functioning. At Hitech , we also offer lifetime warranty on our installation, and if anything goes wrong after we install, we will fix it at no cost to you. Self installations are not covered by any warranty and some product warranties may be void or reduced if they were not installed by a professional.
How much does a typical furnace installation cost?
The average cost of a new furnace with installation typically ranges anywhere from $1,700 to $6,400 dollars, depending on the type of furnace and the installation complications. The cost for your installation will vary depending on the type of furnace you need as well as the length of time it will take to install. Call us for a free estimate and we can give you an accurate idea of what we can do for your specific needs.
What are the most common types of furnaces available?
The forced air furnace is the most common type of furnace today. There are three types of forced air furnaces, namely: gas, electric and oil.
What features should I look for in choosing a furnace?
A few things to consider include the size of the furnace, the BTU capacity, and doing a load calculation to make sure that you get the right size and power to heat your home properly. Consult with one of our technicians who can help explain BTU’s and load calculations in further detail.
What are the top brands of furnaces that you recommend?
We offer many trusted brands of furnaces including Rheem, Lennox, Bryant, Trane, and Tempstar.
Do I need to be there during install?
We recommend someone from the home be present during installation in the home if at all possible. This ensures that we can communicate with you throughout the process.
What should I look for when choosing a furnace installation company?
Here are a few things to look at when choosing a furnace installation company:
For this last question, looking at their website, customer reviews and speaking to a representative can give you a good idea of a company’s reputation. A company with a good reputation is naturally much more likely to value their customers and give you the best experience possible.

EPA studies show that even in the smoggiest cities, the indoor air quality inside most modern homes is usually at least ten times more polluted than the air outside.
How can this be? There are many reasons, some of which were discovered only recently. They include invisible assassins like radon and CO2, as well as gas-emitting chemicals like formaldehyde used in making modern carpeting, drapery, household cleaners, furniture and building materials. There are also common airborne pollutants such as pollen, viruses, dust and dust mites and damp areas where standing water can breed mold, mildew and other microbes.
Much of this problem is attributed to the way modern homes are built—for purposes of energy efficiency, and to be as air-tight as possible. The consequence is that stale air, laced with odors, chemicals, irritants – even miniscule insects – often becomes trapped in modern homes, where it circulates over and over. This can lead to eye irritation, sinus congestion, sneezing, runny nose, stuffiness, colds, flu, headaches, dizziness, outbreaks of allergies and asthma, sore throats, and various other respiratory ailments.
So serious and prevalent is this issue that environmentalists have coined a new term for it-IAQ or Indoor Air Quality. Today’s homeowners need to become more aware of the importance of IAQ and what they can do about it.
Whole House Exact Fit Media Air Cleaners were designed to fit any Rheem central heating system. This exact-fit design maximizes filtration allowing your Rheem home comfort solution make the air in your home cleaner and more comfortable. Make sure you perform regular routine maintenance on your furnace. This will significantly reduce the need for extensive repairs in the future. The most important regular maintenance routine is a yearly inspection by a professional. Many believe that a regular professional inspection is not necessary and they can simply review the unit themselves. While there is much that you can do yourself, read on below to learn about the distinct advantages of choosing a professional for your yearly scheduled maintenance.
Other things to consider in a regular maintenance routine include changing your air filter regularly. This is by far the easiest way to maintain your furnace in good condition through your own efforts. Other tips include simple items and checks on a regular basis such as the following:
Changing your air filter is one of the easiest ways that you can contribute to the long life of your furnace and avoid furnace repairs. According to Energy Star, a branch of the US Environmental Protection Agency, you should change your air filter on average every 3 months. You may need to change it more often during the winter months when you are using your system more often. A contaminated air filter can lead to decreased air flow in the system, and can expose your household to harmful contaminants that are trapped in the filter and then disseminated into the air you are breathing in your home. For your health, as well as to keep your furnace running smoothly and avoid major repairs, regularly changing your air filter is an important habit to develop in your home.
Do you really need to change the oil in your car? Think of preventative maintenance on your furnace as you would think of preventative maintenance on your vehicle. Each is a machine and each is designed to last for many years if given the proper regular maintenance. Scheduling a yearly professional tune-up, preferably in the fall before you begin using your heating system, is best way to catch problems in advance and make sure that everything is working properly prior to the cold season (which can get pretty cold here in New York ). Ideally it is best if this inspection is done by a professional each year as well rather than doing it yourself. You can still perform a lot of basic maintenance throughout the year that will keep your furnace in great shape, but having a professional look at it once a year will ensure you catch all the necessary parts and resolve any potential problems before they become a crisis. Repairs are much less painful when done caught early and taken care of quickly rather than a major repair later on.
Not only does a yearly inspection protect you from major repairs, but a yearly inspection can also help you save money in the long run. Some studies have reported that a regularly serviced furnace can help you save up to 30 percent on your energy bills. You will also save money by having less emergency repair calls which can be costly depending on the time and scope of the repair. Some HVAC professionals report that over two thirds of emergency maintenance
Another reason why you should consider yearly tuneups is if you have any desire to use your furnace’s warranty. If your furnace breaks and is within the warranty period, the manufacturer has the right to view a schedule of repairs to ensure there has not been negligence on the owner’s part. A regular inspection by a professional gives you this record of repairs so that should something happen, you are more likely to be able to use your product warranty. Furnaces and heating systems can be expensive to replace, and just like cars, a little preventative maintenance through a yearly tuneup can go a long way.
How much do general furnace repairs cost?
Furnace repair costs vary by company, and in general a service call for furnace repair costs between $50 to $100 dollars. This is the fee to have someone come out and look at your furnace. For emergency repairs or on weekends or holidays the fee may be different. You may also incur some parts and labor costs depending on the needed service or repairs. At Hitech , we will give you an estimate up front so that you know what you are looking at, and we are committed to giving you our best price and service possible. Give us a call for a quote or visit our pricing page to learn more.
How often do furnaces generally need repairs?
With proper maintenance, furnace units are meant to last 15 to 20 years. As with any machine, occasionally a part will wear out and need to be replaced, and you will want to consult with your furnace professional about your furnace brand and typical parts replacement times. However, with regular maintenance you will not likely need too many repairs on your furnace and your preventative maintenance will pay off in terms of extending the life of your furnace rather than having to pay for a costly replacement. However, if your furnace is old and repairs are becoming more frequent, it may be in your best interest to consider a replacement instead of constant repairs, Consult a furnace professional who can help give you recommendations for what may be best for your situation.
What is furnace cleaning? What is duct cleaning? Is that different from my yearly inspection?
Generally furnace cleaning is done at the time of your yearly inspection and involves cleaning all of the parts of your furnace to help the unit run most efficiently. This is also slightly different from cleaning the furnace duct work of your home, which is another very important part of keeping a well maintained heating system. Give us a call and we can help explain the difference and benefits of each service to see what will most benefit you.

How long does the typical HVAC repair service take?
Time to complete an HVAC repair as you may expect depends on the type of repair being done and the size of your home. While very minor repairs such as replacing a fuse can be done in just a few minutes, other repairs can take longer, and a full replacement or ductwork can take up to a day or more. However, most of our service calls typically take a couple of hours at most, depending on the severity of your repair. Once we have diagnosed the problem, we can also give you an estimate of how long it will take so that you are aware of everything that is happening with your repair. We strive to provide prompt service and we can work within your schedule and time needs to get the repair done as fast as possible.
How much does HVAC repair cost?
This also will depend on the severity of the repair and the size of your home if any ductwork is needed. In general, HVAC repairs can range from $140 to $450 for total cost for most standard repairs, and the typical industry standard for labor/service is anywhere from $75 to $150 per hour. However, please also take into account service and reliability when evaluating the cost of repairs. Sometimes the cheap guy isn’t always the best. Instead of just dollars, also look for someone you can trust with the long term well-being of your home. Your home is one of the biggest investments you will make in your life, and investing a little in the right person to service your HVAC will go a long way in terms of the long term health of your home’s systems. Look for someone who will care for your investment as you do!
In general, air conditioning repairs often cost slightly more than furnace repairs, however this varies depending on the cost of the parts that need to be replaced and the complexity of your system. Also, most HVAC companies will charge a minimum service fee just to help cover travel costs and things. However, while pricing may vary depending on the severity of the repair and the cost of parts to repair, we at Hitech are committed to giving you the lowest prices and the best customer service. We can give you general quotes for most types of repairs and will always let you know what we think the cost will be upon inspection so that you are never caught off guard. We provide our pricing up front and include all necessary costs so that you know up front exactly what repairs will cost. We never have hidden fees and we will never complete a repair without your agreement and permission first. We treat our customers as friends and our technicians do their best to deliver you the best pricing, parts and service around.
What does the repair process look like?
When you notice something is wrong, but are not sure what it is, the first step is to give us a call at Hitech PTAC Manhattan . You can explain to us briefly your problem over the phone to help us diagnose what is going on, and we can give you information about what we think the problem may be as well as potential costs or time to fix it. We will then set up a time for us to come out and inspect and fix your system, depending on your schedule and needs. If you need immediate service, we will send one of our technicians as quickly as possible, and will work with you to get someone there as soon as we can. They will arrive with one of our Hitech trucks and will have stocked the necessary tools and standard parts needed for almost any repair. This way they should be prepared to help you without needing to source any extra parts.
When our technicians arrive, they will let you know who they are with and will wear company uniforms so that you can feel comfortable with them in your home. If it is a simple fix like fuses, thermostats or others, we will have that done in a jiffy so that you can get back to a comfortable home. If the repair is more extensive and will take longer, we will communicate with you and let you know so that you can be aware, and we will do our best to help you get it fixed as quickly as possible. We will make sure to communicate with you every step of the way. We want to be known as your friend in the HVAC business and not just that awkward repair person who shows up, leaves and sends you a bill. We are here to serve you, and to make the process as simple and painless as possible.
What are some of the most common HVAC repairs?
Here is a list of some of the most common issues with your HVAC system. Some of these can be fixed on your own (especially things like changing dirty air filters) or it may involve a very simple repair with one of our expert technicians. Other times a more extensive repair is needed. No matter the issue, we probably have someone who knows how to fix it, and if you aren’t sure what is wrong, or don’t have the experience to do it yourself, give us a call at Hitech today!
Sometimes when we go on a service call, we find that our customer’s system is so old or broken down that it may actually be more cost effective and better in the long run to replace the entire system, rather than just a repair. This often happens in very old homes where the air conditioning unit or heating system is outdated and has not been replaced in many years. While this is never fun news to get, we want you to know that we have your best interest in mind and want to make sure you get the best deal, not just now, but also in the long run. So if we arrive and our technician gives you this recommendation, know we are not here just to sell you something, because that flies in the face of everything we believe in at Hitech . We want to be seen as your trusted partner and friend for all your HVAC needs.
If we decide together that a replacement is needed, we know that involves a lot more cost and time for you. So we at Hitech try to make this process as easy as possible. We will inspect your unit and give you recommendations for what to purchase based on your space and the size of your home. We also sell both furnace and air conditioning units and can give you a quote for some of our best brands if you are interested. We will work with you through every step of the process to make sure that you can get the best deal possible and so that we never leave you hanging. We will also do our best to repair your old system so that you can have a running system while we work on the larger replacement. Depending on the extent of the replacement, sometimes this process can take several days. If that is the case we will work with you to make sure that we schedule according to your needs and provide you with as prompt of service as possible.
It isn’t often that we have to replace a full system, and many times a repair is all that is needed. However, if you do need a full system replacement, know that we are here to help take care of you for your short and long term HVAC needs.
